"Flowers for Birthday" (1996) is a beautiful and deeply expressive work highlighting Joseph Kapelyan’s mastery of rich symbolism and narrative play. Executed in oil on a substantial 90x80cm canvas, this original painting infuses the classic celebratory theme with a clever touch of the artist's humor. The composition is uniquely styled after ancient Egyptian art, featuring a stylized figure presented in a classic profile stance extending a celebratory bouquet. Through this witty dialogue between ancient visual conventions and contemporary celebration, Kapelyan translates a familiar ritual into a timeless, whimsical, and deeply contemplative fine art statement.
